BILL TO ESTABLISH AKWA IBOM AVIATION TRAINING INSTITUTE PASSES SECOND READING

A bill seeking the establishment of Akwa Ibom State Aviation Training Institute has passed second reading at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

Sponsored by the member representing Ini State Constituency, Hon. Lawrence Udoide, and 20 others, the bill which seeks to provide courses of training, research and development in relevant fields in the aviation industry and for matters connected therewith, aims to position Akwa Ibom State strategically in the aviation sector to derive the full benefit of the Victor Attah International Airport and the aviation village.

Speaking on the general principles of the bill during plenary, on Thursday, Hon. Udoide, explained that the bill seeks to leverage on the state’s success story in the aviation sector by complementing the vision behind the establishment of the Victor Attah International Airport which is adjudged one of the best airports in the country.

Udoide, who hailed former Governor Victor Attah for the vision behind the airport, commended Governor Umo Eno for laying the foundation for the development of the aviation village.

The Ini Lawmaker, said the establishment of the Aviation College would be of immense benefit to the state, as it would help to train Akwa Ibom youths in aviation related fields.

Lawmakers including, the member representing, Oron/Udung Uko, Hon. Kenim Onofiok, Member for Urue-offong Oruko State Constituency, Hon. Precious Selong among others, spoke in support of the bill during the debate.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. ( Elder) Udeme Otong, committed the bill to the House Committee on Education, urging the committee to report back to the House within one month.
