UDOIDE’s BILL SEEKING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AVIATION TRAINING INSTITUTE PASSES SECOND READING

A bill for a law seeking the establishment of an aviation training institution in Akwa Ibom to be known as Akwa Ibom State Aviation Training Institute, sponsored by the member representing INI State Constituency, Hon. Lawrence Udoide has passed second reading on the floor of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

The bill which has been been committed to the House Committee on Education for indepth study and further legislative action, scaled second reading during Thursday’s plenary at the House of Assembly.

Addressing newsmen in his office shortly after the day’s plenary, the INI Lawmaker explained that his decision sponsor the bill was informed by the desire to place Akwa Ibom in the global aviation map by ensuing that the state takes full advantage of its enviable position in the aviation industry.

Hon. Udoide who commended former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Obong Victor Attah for his vision in conceptualizing the airport project, and past leaders of the State who came after him, and the current Governor, Umo Eno for sustaining the vision behind the airport project, said it has become necessary that the state should have an Aviation Training Institute to leverage it’s leading position as an emerging aviation hub in Nigeria and the West Africa region.

 Udoide told news men that Akwa Ibom has the best airport facility in the country, saying when the Aviation school comes on board, it will train Akwa Ibom youths willing to take up a career in the aviation industry.

He particularly praised Gov Umo Eno for recently flagging off the construction of an aviation village, describing the project as a testament to the current administration’s commitment towards making the State a leading light in aviation development.

“I want to appreciate the Governor for the wisdom behind the aviation village. If we establish the Aviation College it will be of immense benefit to the State. A lot of our youths will develop interest in the Aviation sector by taking up aviation related courses in the Institute. It is a school that is meant to impact knowledge”.
