The Falcons will be leaving for Pretoria today.

The Super Falcons, following their slim 1-0 victory in the initial leg, are scheduled to depart Nigeria on Sunday evening for the forthcoming second leg of the final phase of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games qualification.

During Friday’s match at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Captain Rasheedat Ajibade’s penalty goal in the 42nd minute proved pivotal in securing a victory against the reigning African champions, South Africa, in a showdown where Nigeria emerged triumphant for the ninth time.

In a tense second half, an impressive pass from Thembi Kgatlana created an opportunity for Jermain Seoposenwe to unleash a powerful shot from 20 yards, challenging goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie to deliver a remarkable save.

With the Falcons holding a narrow 1-0 lead on aggregate, the upcoming return leg at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria promises an intense battle.

As per the Nigerian Football Federation’s announcement, the Super Falcons will embark on their journey Sunday night via the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, en route to South Africa.

Meanwhile, Banyana Banyana have returned to Johannesburg after the first leg.

The ultimate victors will secure one of Africa’s two slots for the women’s football event at Paris 2024, with the Copper Queens of Zambia and Atlas Lionesses of Morocco contending for the other qualification spot.

It’s worth noting that the Super Falcons’ last appearance at the Olympics dates back 16 years to Beijing, China.
