The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended Prophet Adeniyi Abiodun James, the General Overseer of CAC Freedom City Prophetic and Deliverance Ministry in Ilorin, Kwara State, for allegedly swindling a church member out of N3.9 million.
The arrest occurred on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, as confirmed by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale on Saturday, April 6.
The victim, Oluwole Babarinsa, lodged a complaint with the EFCC, claiming that James had promised him a trip abroad during a church service in 2021. James purportedly stated he had a revelation about Babarinsa traveling to Canada.
Subsequently, James allegedly offered to assist Babarinsa in relocating to Canada through a contact in Lagos, demanding N1.7 million for facilitation and N2.5 million for travel expenses.
To fulfill this agreement, Babarinsa purportedly sold some of his possessions and obtained loans, totaling N3,980,000, which he handed over to James.
However, after experiencing delays and receiving no tangible progress, Babarinsa demanded a refund. Despite his pleas, James allegedly failed to return the money.
The EFCC stated that James will face charges in court after the completion of investigations.
