Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, reveals ambitious plans for an Aviation Village near Victor Attah International Airport.
During a ceremony at the airport to mark the arrival of a new A220-300 series aircraft for Ibom Air, the Governor emphasized the significance of the airline’s growth and urged gratitude among Akwa Ibomites for its achievements.
“We gather here to celebrate growth, hard work, commitment, and dedication because Ibom Air is a source of pride for Akwa Ibom State,” Governor Eno stated.
He outlined plans for an aviation estate to accommodate airport staff, complete with schools, hospitals, and essential amenities to support the upcoming 24-hour operations.
Reflecting on Ibom Air’s success over its five-year history, Governor Eno praised it as a model of effective government enterprise, hinting at applying similar strategies to other state-owned ventures.
In line with his administration’s development agenda, Governor Eno assured progress on the maintenance, repairs, and overhaul hanger (MRO) and the new international terminal, along with upgrading the airport clinic to meet international standards.
Acknowledging past leaders’ contributions, Governor Eno recognized the efforts of former Governor Udom Emmanuel in establishing Ibom Air despite initial skepticism.
He also thanked President Bola Tinubu for supporting Akwa Ibom’s initiatives, underscoring his commitment to tourism and investment opportunities in the state.
The event saw Managing Director Captain Mfon Udom and Chairman ImoAbasi Jacob of Ibom Air highlighting the new aircraft’s role in enhancing flight schedules and expanding routes.
Governor Eno received prayers from traditional rulers, affirming their support for the state’s continued progress under his leadership.
