Six bodies recovered in Gaza on Saturday were those of hostages taken by Hamas, Israeli officials confirmed on Sunday.

The bodies of Almog Sarusi, Alex Lubnov, Carmel Gat, Ori Danino, Eden Yerushalmi and Israeli-American Hersh Goldberg-Polin were recovered, IDF officials said in a statement.

Pres. Biden spoke with Hersh Goldberg-Polin’s parents, Rachel Goldberg and Jon Polin, on Sunday morning to “offer his condolences for the death of their son at the hands of Hamas,” according to a White House official.

“I have worked tirelessly to bring their beloved Hersh safely to them and am heartbroken by the news of his death,” Biden said in a statement. “It is as tragic as it is reprehensible.”

Meanwhile, in Tel Aviv, thousands of protesters took part in an anti-government rally calling for the release of Israelis held hostage by Palestinian militants. Israel’s national trade union, representing the majority of the country’s unionized workers, announced it will hold a one-day general strike on Monday in an attempt to pressure the Israeli government to agree to a cease-fire and hostage deal.
