The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a Reverend Father accused of fatally shooting a boy and injuring several others during a crossover night celebration in Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area, on January 1, 2024.
Eyewitnesses allege that the priest had previously issued warnings against the use of knockouts during the event. Despite his warnings, some youths reportedly lit fireworks.
In what appears to have been an attempt to enforce his directive, the clergyman allegedly retrieved a firearm and opened fire on the group.
The incident left one boy dead, while others sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
