The Akwa Ibom State Ethical and Attitudinal Reorientation Commission, EARCOM, has again charged Content creators and other users of the various Social media platforms to desist from the excessive focus on vulgar content in a bid to chase clout and likes, harping that such anomaly is injurious to the moral fabrics of the society.
A Commissioner on the Governing Board of EARCOM, Sir Ubong Ekefre, said this while responding to a telephone conversation on the upsurge in the use of extreme vulgarity by online content creators and social media influencers of Akwa Ibom origin.
Sir Ekefre said the Commission has consistently raised alarm over this negative tendency and appealed to those concerned to refocus their talents on addressing sundry ethical issues that afflict the society including drug/substance abuse, human and sex trafficking, Ritual murders, corruption, economic sabotage among many others.
He however called on regulators of the various Social media platforms to be more strict in removing uploaded videos that violate its content policies and commended TikTok for reportedly taking down over 2 million of such in recent times.
Sir Ekefre stressed that Online Content Creators can become effective moral agents in society by focusing on updates that promote integrity, morality, social security, mental, attitudinal, civility, ethical and behavioural Health on their verified handles.
He explained that EARCOM is rooting for the authorities to enforce relevant cyber laws that will eradicate fake accounts used to perpetrate unwholesome online content, check cyber-bullying, restrain underage users from the space and sanction those who breach the laws.
