Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has handed over a fully furnished ARISE compassionate home to a widow, Mrs. Akon Sunday Inim, in Ikot Akwa Ebom in Abak Local Government Area.
Mrs. Inim, a widow who lost her husband since 2003, was overwhelmed with emotion as she received the keys to her new home, courtesy of the Governor’s initiative which aims to support vulnerable members of the society.
Speaking, the Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Uno Etim Uno, also presented Mrs. Inim with a business grant of N500,000 to support her in maintenance of the house.
He announced that the target of the compassionate home initiative is to reach 400 homes across the state in the next four years. According to him, “this means that every ward in Abak will have at least one compassionate home, providing shelter and support to vulnerable members of the community.”
In a goodwill message, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Elder Udeme Otong, applauded the Governor for his commitment to the welfare of the less privileged, which he described as a testament to his dedication to leaving a lasting legacy.
Otong also acknowledged the Governor’s various development projects in Abak, including model primary schools, model health centers, road projects, and job creation for youths adding that, Abak is solidly behind the Governor’s second term.
On his part, the SA to the Governor on Humanitarian Services, Prince Nsikanabasi Umoekpo, announced that the compassionate home handed over to the widow in Abak is the first of its kind to be delivered in Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency.
He described the two bedroom bungalow as a fully furnished facility equipped with a solar-powered borehole, 24-hour solar power, and a kitchen and commended the Chairman of Abak Local Government, Pastor Ekerete Inyang for donating a smart TV to complement the furnishings.
Full of excitement, the beneficiary, Madam Inim, a mother of seven, who sang for joy , expressed gratitude to God and Governor Eno for his compassionate disposition through the ARISE Initiative which she said has alleviated her suffering and changed her story.
She recounted how she and her grandchildren suffered during rainy seasons, struggling to find shelter and comfort in their former dilapidated home and thanked the Governor for ending their suffering and providing them with a safe and secured accommodation.
The well-attended event featured goodwill messages, songs by women of the area in appreciation of the Governor for his compassionate disposition, donation of a LG Smart Television to the widow by the Transition Chairman, Pastor Ekerete Inyang, donation of Gas to the beneficiary by the Media Consultant to the Governor, Elder Aniekan Umanah and cash support of 200,000 by the Speaker of AKHA.
