The Chairman of Nsit Ibom Local Government Council, Mrs. Otobong Aaron, has taken a significant step towards improving healthcare delivery in the area. On Tuesday, January 14th, 2024, a truckload of essential hospital equipment and medical consumables worth millions of naira were handed over to the Health Centre at Edebom 1.
This donation is part of the council’s efforts to upgrade healthcare infrastructure in Nsit Ibom, aligning with the ARISE Agenda of Pastor Umo Eno.
Mrs. Aaron tasked the management of the Health Care Centre to put the equipment to proper use, explaining that the gesture was in furtherance of her commitment to ensuring quality healthcare services for Nsit Ibom people.
The donated items, over 31 in number, include hospital beds, Sphygmomanometers, mucus extractors, and other essential hospital consumables. Receiving the items, the Chairman of the Village Health Committee in Edebom 1, Rev. Uko T. Nda, and other officials thanked Mrs. Aaron for equipping the Health Centre and pledged to manage the facilities judiciously.
The Village Head of Edebom 1, Eteidung Joseph A. Ekponwa, commended Mrs. Aaron’s pragmatic leadership style, stating that the provision of essential medical consumables and equipment will enable his people to access better and quality healthcare. As a show of appreciation, the Village Head presented a live goat, plantains, and other food items to the Chairman.
Similarly, the Health Centre at Okwo Nsit received equipment and consumables from the Chairman last week, while another Health Centre at Ikot Oku Nsit is expected to receive another set of hospital equipment and consumables, today Wednesday.
In another development, the Chairman of Nsit Ibom, Mrs. Otobong Aaron has listed investment in agriculture, healthcare, empowerment of market women, giving the Council secreteriat a facelift as some of the key highlights of her development efforts since she assumed office in October last year.
She also hinted that by February her administration will be embarking on road grading across the entire local government area, and announced that the council grader which is not in good condition will soon be fixed. She also hinted that plans have been concluded to site a Skills acquisition centre in Ikot Obio Etan to boost manpower development and create opportunity for youths of the local government area to acquire skills for self reliant.
The Council boss stated this when she played host to Media aides of the Governor, including the Special Assistant to the Governor on Local Media, Mr. Ernest Akpan, Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Aniefiok Macaulay and another Media aide to the Governor, Mr. Joseph Okon who were in the local government area to on a fact checking mission aimed at assessing the performance of Local Government Chairmen ahead of their first 100 days in office.
While conducting the team round the council farm which boasts of a large plantation of some cash crops, including water melon, fluted pumpkin leaves, Okro, yellow Corn, pepper, and other crops, Mrs. Aaron explained that she decided to key into farming in order to boost food security in Nsit Ibom and create jobs for the people, saying the farm plantation employs a lot of people who are paid N40,000 per month to tend the farm.
The Council boss told the Governor’s aides that in no distant time, she would replicate the plantation in all the wards and villages in the area.
Responding, the Governor’s media aides commended Mrs. Aaron for keying into the Governor’s ARISE AGENDA, and enjoined her not to relent in her development efforts.
