Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State revealed in an exclusive interview with Ismaeel Uthman that his brother has never asked him for money despite being the one who sponsored his election.
Known for his charismatic personality and dance moves, Governor Adeleke discussed his administration’s achievements, regional security efforts, and his bond with music star Davido.
Reflecting on his tenure, Governor Adeleke expressed pride in Osun’s progress under his leadership. “We’ve made significant strides,” he affirmed, highlighting improvements in workers’ welfare, clearing salary arrears, and instituting the Imole Free Medical Care for pensioners.
“We’ve transformed Osun into a construction hub,” the governor remarked on infrastructure developments across the state. “From roads to hospitals and schools, our projects are transforming communities.”
When asked about the challenges of governance, Governor Adeleke candidly recounted the state’s initial struggles, including the daunting task of refurbishing a looted Government House. “It was embarrassing,” he admitted, describing the extensive renovations required to restore the seat of government.
Addressing criticisms, particularly allegations of financial indebtedness, Governor Adeleke clarified, “We’ve managed resources prudently, refusing offers for loans to avoid burdening the state.”
Acknowledging his family’s support, especially from his brother, Dr. Deji Adeleke, who funded his election without seeking favors in return, Governor Adeleke emphasized, “My family motivates me to prioritize good governance.”
Responding to claims of nepotism and regional bias in project distribution, the governor defended his administration’s transparency and equitable resource allocation across Osun State.
Regarding security challenges in the Southwest, Governor Adeleke commended collaborative efforts among governors to strengthen regional security, emphasizing ongoing initiatives to safeguard communities.
Reflecting on political dynamics, the governor remained unfazed by potential opposition, expressing confidence in his administration’s performance and public support. “I am ready for any challenge,” he affirmed.
On his family’s political legacy and relationship with Davido, Governor Adeleke shared fond memories, describing Davido as a son figure and recounting their shared journey in music and politics.
“Dancing has always been part of me,” Governor Adeleke chuckled, sharing a personal anecdote about his early affinity for music and dance. “It’s part of my joy and resonates with people,” he added, dismissing attempts to undermine his leadership based on his love for dance.
Balancing governance with family life, Governor Adeleke acknowledged the sacrifices made by his wives and family. “It’s a team effort,” he remarked, grateful for their support amid the demands of public office.
