MORE BENEFICIARIES CAPTURED IN THE SECOND PHASE OF ARISE FOOD SECURITY PROGRAM

The ARISE Food Security Program of the Umo Eno led administration is making waves in State with more beneficiaries captured in its second phase of free food distribution across the State.

On Saturday 23rd November 2024, the food truck from Akwa Ibom Bulk Purchase Agency (AKBPA) made a stop at Uquo, the Esit Eket Local Government Secretariat, distributing food items to beneficiaries drawn from across the eleven Wards in the area.

This makes it the 25th Local Government Area so far captured in the second phase of the ongoing free food distribution exercise, as the remaining 6 LGA’s are expected to be reached within the remaining days in the month of November to pave way for the 3rd phase of the ARISE food security program billed for December.

The initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to enhance food security and alleviate hunger among its citizenry, while concerted efforts are made to boost agriculture and food production for a sustainable food security program in the State.

Receiving the food items from the State government, the excited beneficiaries including, Madam Udeme Wilson Umanah from Edor village, Ward 8, Ata Atah Ntukidem from ward 1, Atim Okon William from Ikpa, Idara Sunday Ntuen, Ekaette Monday Nyoho from Uqua iso Edoho, Owoisinne Mfon David from Uquaiso Edoho village, and a physically challenged, Emmanuel David Koffi, thanked the Governor for the palliative, noting that the food would go a long way in providing succour to vulnerable persons in the area.

Addressing the people of the local government area who gathered in their thousands at the council Secretariat, the General Manager of the Akwa Ibom Bulk Purchase Agency, Hon. Unyime Etim disclosed that he and his team were in the area on the directive of the Governor to ensure that the food items reach intended beneficiaries.

He explained that the food palliative is exclusively for those captured in the social register, and can only access the food items upon presentation of food voucher for verification and authentication.

Reacting, the Executive Chairman of ESIT EKET Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Uduak Ikot who led other council officials to welcome the AKBPA team to the area, described the ARISE food security program of the State government as a laudable initiative aimed at making lives bearable for the less privileged.

Other key officials of the council who were present to supervise the distribution exercise were, the Vice -Chairman of Council, Rt. Hon. Eddy Etangkanga, Council Secretary, Comrade Godwin Francis Elijah, Leader of Council and Councilors, as well as Ward PA’s to the Governor.

Meanwhile, Abak Local Government Area is set to receive its food supply on Monday, as the food truck from the Akwa Ibom Bulk Purchase Agency will be at the Council Secretariat in furtherance of the ongoing free food distribution.

The food supplies, which include essential items such as rice, beans, and garri, will be distributed at the Council Secretariat to thousands of beneficiaries across the villages and wards in the local government area. This initiative is expected to bring relief to many families who are struggling to make ends meet.
