Lori and her conjoined twin, George, passed away on Sunday, April 7, at a Pennsylvania hospital, as per their online obituaries by Leibensperger Funeral Homes. The cause of their demise remains undisclosed.
Born with partially fused skulls and sharing 30 percent of their brains, the twins exceeded medical expectations by surpassing the age of 30. While Lori enjoyed good health, George, who had spina bifida, relied on a wheelchair, which Lori often pushed.
In a groundbreaking move, they became the world’s first same-sex conjoined twins to identify as different genders. In 2007, George publicly came out as transgender, embracing his identity as a man.
George found success as a country singer, while Lori pursued her love for ten-pin bowling, earning several trophies along the way. During the ’90s, Lori adjusted her hospital laundry job to accommodate George’s music career.
Their unique journey took them on adventures around the globe, including visits to Germany and Japan, according to Guinness World Records. George’s transition to a man, accompanied by a name change from Dori to George, marked a significant moment in their lives.
Living independently in a two-bedroom apartment in Pennsylvania, the twins balanced their individual interests, taking turns sleeping in each other’s rooms and showering separately.
The news of their passing prompted Guinness World Records to acknowledge their status as the oldest living conjoined twins and the oldest female conjoined twins ever, expressing their sadness at the loss.
