Ikot Ekpene Chairman Presents N7.471 Billion “Budget of Restoration” for 2025 Fiscal Year

The Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Hon. Aniefiok Nkom, has presented the 2025 appropriation estimate, dubbed the “Budget of Restoration,” with an estimate totalling N7.471 billion for the fiscal year.ย 

The budget aims to address consistency and reposition the local government’s economy through various projects and programs.

The budget breakdown reveals a total recurrent expenditure of N4.775 billion, representing 64% of the budget, while capital expenditure stands at N2.696 billion, accounting for 36%. The proposed recurrent revenue is N7.173 billion, with N298 million earmarked for capital receipts.

According to Hon. Nkom, the budget is anchored on the economic blueprint and campaign promises aimed at achieving specific goals, including poverty reduction, employment generation, wealth creation, and value re-orientation. The chairman emphasized that the presentation of the estimate is in accordance with the Akwa Ibom State Local Government Administration Law of 2017 and the Finance (Control and Management) Act, 1958.

The budget outlines several major projects, including the expansion of internally generated revenue base, construction of a motor park, improvement of healthcare services, and environmental sanitation. Other programs and projects include building an effective security network, restoring the local government’s glory, and promoting human capital development and job creation.

Hon. Nkom also highlighted his administration’s achievements within two months in office, including the repair of a 65KVA power generating plant, rehabilitation of a road grader machine, and ongoing maintenance of existing tarred roads.

The chairman commended the Eighth Legislative Council of Ikot Ekpene for their contributions to the local government’s peace and progress. He expressed hope that the budget’s implementation would address economic challenges and solicited prompt deliberation and passage of the Appropriation Bill.

In conclusion, Hon. Nkom thanked the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for the successful conduct of local government elections, which led to his emergence as chairman. He also commended the citizens and residents of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area for their confidence in voting his administration into office.
