Member representing Essien Udim State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Prince Ukpong Akpabio took time off his busy schedules to accord Essien Udim Football Team a grand reception from the just concluded Akwa Ibom State Governor’s Cup, in which the team took fourth position.
Prince Akpabio hosted the footballers and crew members to a dinner at Sheraton by Four Point Hotel, Ikot Ekpene, where he donated N.5m to them in appreciation of their exceptional performance which also saw them emerging the Best Team of the tournament with N1m prize.
The dinner graced by the Vice Chairman of Essien Udim Local Government Transition Committee, Hon. Imo Etim; Supervisor for Sports and his Youths counterpart, Hon. Akan Amos among past and present political office holders from the area.
The Essien Udim lawmaker said to emerge fourth out of the 31 Local Government Areas in the State was a no mean feat, but a result of teamwork, resilience and passion.
He saluted the team for their tenacious performance and spirit of sportsmanship and commended the coach, the crew and the entire management for their hard work and sacrifice, stressing that the team needs encouragement and support to be more prepared for the next edition of the Governor’s Cup.
Prince Akpabio, who is the Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges expressed happiness that the goalkeeper of Essien Udim Football Team was also playing for the great Enyimba Football Club of Aba, saying he looks forward to a better Essien Udim where sport is used as a tool to promote peaceful coexistence, love and unity among the people.
The captain of Essien Udim Football team, Ifiok Akpanya and the coach of the team, Akarandut Orok were full of praises to Prince Akpabio for hosting the team describing him as a role model for other lawmakers to emulate.
They thanked the lawmaker for believing in Essien Udim by always identifying with his people and standing by them in every competition and assured him that Essien Udim Football Team will be a difficult nut to crack in next year’s Governor’s Cup.
Prince Ukpong Akpabio also hosted his media team to a dinner at the Sheraton Hotel where he expressed gratitude to the media practitioners for projecting the image of Essien Udim State Constituency in good light.
