As the Arise Food Security Program of the Umo Eno led administration enters its second phase, with the recent delivery of delivery trucks and loads of food items such as Rice and Garri to the State Bulk Purchase Agency, the first phase of the programme had been adjudge successful.
The disclosure was made by the Media Consultant to the Governor, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, while featuring on a live radio program on Inspiration FM, where he gave an account of the success story of the Arise Food Security Program of the government, assuring that more milestones would be attained in the second phase.
“The food security program is ongoing. The new trucks the Governor told the people that his government was acquiring to enable the Akwa Ibom Bulk Purchase Agency seamlessly convey food items distribution points at various local government councils are on ground and a timetable for distribution of vouchers already released “.
Umanah, a former Commissioner and former member of the House of Representatives, further explained that the food distribution exercise of the government is an intervention and palliatives programme , maintaining that the Governor’s Back-to Farm call , development of model farms and farm settlements across the local government areas, and conscious efforts by individuals to engage in farming would in the long run ensure food availability and force down the prices of food items.
He hinted that a government through the Ministry of Agriculture is doing a lot to encourage farmers cooperatives and farmers benefit from the massive roll out of support and supplies by way of improved seedling and other farming implements , urging them reciprocate governments gesture by ensuring a boost in food production in the State.
