… Hon Martins Umanah appointed Campaign DG for PDP Chairmanship candidate
With barely 38 days to the October 5, 2024 Local Government and Councilorship election in Akwa Ibom State, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Essien Udim Local Government Area, have resolved to work together as a united family towards achieving a landslide victory for all PDP candidates come October 5, 2024.
At an enlarged PDP Caucus meeting held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the residence of the Political Leader of the area, Chief M. A. Afangideh, OON, the party called on all stakeholders to unite, mobilise and galvanise voters in the 219 polling units and 13 Political Wards of Essien Udim towards ensuring victory for the party.
The meeting witnessed the official presentation of the Polycarp Ibanga Umoh led PDP Chapter elect exco, PDP Ward Chairmen elect and the PDP Chairmanship candidate, Engr Enobong Patrick, the Vice Chairmanship candidate, Mrs Susana Nyoyoko, and the 13 Councillorship candidates to the Political Leader, Chief Afangideh. Plans to officially kick-start campaigns ahead of the forthcoming local government polls were discussed.
Addressing the Caucus, the member representing Essien Udim State Constituency, and Secretary of the Congress Organizing Committee, Prince Ukpong Akpabio II, urged the people to close ranks, unite, and work assiduously to ensure victory for the PDP come October 5, 2024.
He urged all PDP Caucus members, stakeholders and party faithfuls to get set to hit the campaign train and commence door-to-door consultation and campaign to ensure the party secures a landslide victory in the forthcoming local government polls and called on all PDP Ward Chairmen to remain loyal, committed and work hard to build on the success the party has achieved since 1999 in Essien Udim.
According to Prince Akpabio, the Governor Umo Eno led administration is committed towards the development of the rural communities and the incoming local government administration is a critical partner in the realization of the Arise Agenda of the Governor, especially his vision for rural development.
Also speaking, Hon Sujin Inokon said all elected party officers who emerged at the just concluded Chapter and Ward Primary will officially assume duties when affirmed by the Governor who remains the leader of the party in the state.
He admonished the 13 PDP Councillorship candidates to be conscious of the enormous responsibilities that is about to be placed on their shoulders as the task of lawmaking under the incoming administration will be huge, and urged them to be prepared and equipped for the task ahead.
He noted that the onus on effective party management lies mostly on the Ward Chairmen and warned against greed but called for steadfastness, loyalty, commitment and dedication to the ideals and founding principles upon which the PDP was built since inception.
Addressing the meeting, the PDP Chairmanship candidate, Engr Enobong Patrick, thanked the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for his love and solidarity that led to his emergence as the party’s flagbearer and the Political Leader, Chief Afangideh for his support. He commended all Caucus members, stakeholders and Ad-hoc delegates whose support led to his emergence at the primary.
According to Engr Patrick, Essien Udim LGA is a pace setter in Akwa Ibom State and promised to uphold the prestige and dignity of party politics and governance which the local government is known for even before the advent of the fourth republic.
“I will not disappoint Essien Udim because to whom much is given, much is expected. My administration shall strive and do all our possible best for you all to be proud of my administration. We will maintain the peace and continue in the development of Essien Udim”, he vowed.
He called for forgiveness, unity and solidarity, assuring that under his administration, the prevailing unity of the party and Essien Udim people will be sustained.
Responding, the PDP Chapter Chairman elect, Hon Polycarp Umoh, pledged his loyalty to the party’s and his readiness to consult and work hard with all relevant stakeholders to ensure victory for the party at the polls
Highpoint of the meeting was the appointment of a former Local Government Chairman, Hon Barr Martins Umanah as the Campaign DG for the PDP chairmanship candidate, Engr Enobong Patrick, who pledged to deliver the party to victory as it has been the tradition in the local government and state since 1999.
13 PDP Councilorship candidates were officially presented to the PDP Caucus and Stakeholders. They include; Mandu Solomon Obo, Adiasim; Sunday Emmanuel Akpan, Afaha 1,. Itoro Joseph Umoren: Afaha 2; Udeme Sunday Udo: Ekpenyong Atai 1; Eno Samuel Dick: Ekpenyong Atai 2 Oliver Essien, Ikpe; Inimfon Daniel John Udoka, Odoro Ikot 1; Idara Chrysanthus Clement, Odoro Ikot 2, Aniebietobong Okon Jonah, Okon, Isidore Alphonsus Umanah, Ukana East 1; Agnes Gabriel Akpan, Ukana East 2; Augustine Justine Ekarika, Ukana West 1 and Ubong Sunday Umoh, Ukana West 2.
The meeting also witnessed the official presentation of the newly elected PDP Chapter Chairman and officers who will be affirmed later by the leader of the party in the state, led by Polycarp Ibanga Umoh by the Chairman of the primary commitment, Hon Sujin Inokon. Also, PDP Ward Chairmen from the 13 Wards were also presented to the enlarged PDP Caucus.
