In a bid to empower youths in diverse trades, the Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Council, Hon. Ubong Wilson Nkutt, has sponsored eleven participants, one from each ward of Itu Local Government Area, to undergo training at the Heavy Duty Equipment Training Academy, an affiliate of Earthmoving Equipment Double Axle Truck Owners/Drivers Association (EMEDATOA).









The participants attended an orientation programme earlier today, Wednesday March 5, 2025, at the Academy’s facility located at 100 Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Representing the Executive Chairman, his Chief of Staff, Hon. George Akpan, congratulated the trainees and urged them to take their studies seriously.
He hinted that the Academy, in partnership with the office of the Executive Chairman, plans to scout for employment opportunities for the trainees upon completion of their six months studies. The Executive Chairman also revealed that his administration will do everything possible to empower the youths of Itu in diverse trades, and therefore announced a monthly stipends for the trainees, which is meant to cushion the effect of high transportation cost to and from the training venue.
Speaking, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Academy, Comrade Edikan Emmanuel Iwe, who is also the State Chairman of EMEDATOA thanked Hon. Nkutt for his visionary leadership and reminded the trainees that they are lucky to be sponsored by a leader who thinks of them. He explained that the trainees will be awarded TRADE TEST 2 and 3 upon successful completion of their studies.
The orientation programme included the issuance of letters of admission to the trainees and groundbreaking ceremonies for the construction of the Academy’s permanent site.
Dignitaries present at the event included the Head of Human Resources of the Academy, Hon. Ekpema Mbaba, Board of Trustee members, Comrades Kufre Edet and Ita Offiong, as well as instructors and facilitators of the training programme.
