On August 31, 2024, at 5:09 PM WAT, Report has it that Chidimma Adetshina emerged as the winner of Miss Universe Nigeria 2024.
Chidimma, representing Miss Taraba, triumphed over 24 other contestants in the pageant held in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital.
Originally slated to compete in Miss Universe South Africa, Chidimma faced obstacles that led to her disqualification. This sparked significant controversy between South Africans, Nigerians, and their respective supporters worldwide.
At the center of this controversy is Chidimma Adetshina, a Nigerian-South African beauty queen who faced criticism while competing for Miss Universe South Africa.
Chidimma will now represent Nigeria in the upcoming Miss Universe 2024 pageant in Mexico this November.
“I feel amazing. This crown represents not just beauty, but a call to action and unity,” she remarked after being crowned.
Nigerian Minister of Arts and Culture, Hannatu Musawa, presented a bouquet of flowers to the winner and pledged support to ensure she makes Nigeria proud.

Initially qualified as a contestant due to her birthright in South Africa, her citizenship was later disputed by the South African Home Office, alleging a case of identity theft regarding her parentage.
Chidimma’s father is Nigerian, married to a Mozambican woman. Following her withdrawal from the South African competition, she was invited to compete in Miss Universe Nigeria representing her father’s homeland, Taraba state.
As the grand finale of Miss Universe Nigeria approached, reports surfaced of social media campaigns in South Africa urging support for Miss Kwara, Ufa Dania, against Chidimma. Fan voting played a crucial role in determining the top contestants, with Ufa benefiting from extensive support on platforms like X and Facebook.
Ufa, aged 25, made history as the first full-figured contestant in the Miss Universe Nigeria competition, drawing attention to the contest typically dominated by slimmer participants.
This year’s Miss Universe competition emphasizes inclusivity, with significant attention on Chidimma’s journey and the broader impact of the pageant in celebrating diversity and empowering women worldwide.
