The ongoing distribution of 5000 bags of various staple food items to vulnerable persons in each of the 31 Local Government Areas in Akwa Ibom State has continued to elicit positive reaction from beneficiaries at places visited.

Today, the Arise food truck of the Akwa Ibom Bulk Purchase Agency, under the Arise Food Security Programme of the State government visited IKOT ABASI LGA, dolling out bags of Rice, Garri and Beans to beneficiaries drawn from the 12 wards in the local government area.

The beneficiaries who spoke with newsmen were full of excitement and commendation to Governor Umo Eno for remembering them at this time.

General Manager of Akwa Ibom Bulk Purchase Agency, AKBPA, Hon. Unyime Etim, who led the team from the Bulk Agency to the local government area, described the Governor as a caring leader who is concerned about the wellbeing of the less privileged members of the society, hence he thought it necessary to provide some food palliatives to these special members of the society as a measure to cushion the effects of biting hunger and food scarcity, while the government is putting in place necessary investment, programmes and policies to boost agriculture and food production in the State, which would in no distant time ensure food security in the State.

Also speaking, the House Leader, Ikot Abasi Legislative Council, Hon. Imoh Moses Usen, who led Ward Personal Aides to the Governor to receive the AKBPA team to the area, hailed Governor Eno for including IKOT ABASI amongst beneficiaries, and assured of the continuous cooperation and support of the people of the area to his government.

On Monday 28th October, 2024 the food truck will be moving to IKONO local government area for similar exercise.
