Hon. Aniefiok Nkom Meets with Past Councillors, Reaffirms Commitment to Ikot Ekpene’s Development

…as former legislators applaud his development agenda 

 The Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Hon. Aniefiok Nkom, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to actualize his Restoration blueprint.

A statement endorsed by the Information Officer of the Council, Otobong Eshiet and made available to newsmen indicates that Hon. Nkom made this commitment when he received a delegation of immediate past councillors of the 7th Legislative Council in his office on Thursday, February 27, 2025. He emphasized the need for Ikot Ekpene, as an experimental Local Government in West Africa since 1951, to be strategically positioned for overall development.

The Council helmsman called for contributory, innovative ideas and cooperation from all stakeholders, stressing the need for drastic measures to restore the image of the local government and attract investors. He assured that his office is open to positive contributions, aiming to interpret the frontier set by pioneer leaders of the council.

Hon. Nkom welcomed and commended the past councillors for their foresight during their tenure and promised to carry them along in his administration. He acknowledged their contributions to the development of the local government and expressed his willingness to tap from their wealth of experience.

Speaking earlier, the Deputy Leader of the 7th Assembly, Hon. Abraham Udo, lauded Hon. Nkom for the numerous legacy projects executed within the council secretariat and in the local government. He listed some of the projects, including the grading of rural roads, repair of existing tarred roads, and enhancement of traffic flow in the local government area.

Hon. Udo also commended the Chairman for the synergy experienced between the legislative arm and the executive in the current Assembly, citing the renovation of the Legislative Chambers and welfare settlements. He solicited for incorporation into the administration, promising to contribute their quota to the development of the local government.

In their respective speeches, Hon. Owoikana Ekanem and Hon. Emilia Udom appreciated the Council Chairman for the transformation work experienced in the entire local government in various sectors, ranging from infrastructure development to education. They appealed to Hon. Nkom to maintain the tempo by ensuring that he fulfills other campaign promises, as they pledged their support to the council administration.
