NBA Commends Transport Commissioner for Adherence to Rule of Law

…As Anthony Luke directs VIO to Vacate Road in Compliance with Court Ruling

Barely 24 hours after assuming office, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Anthony Luke, has received commendation from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Uyo Branch, for his commitment to the rule of law.

The commendation follows his prompt directive ordering Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) to vacate the roads, in compliance with a court judgment.

In a press release signed by the Secretary, Utomobong Inyang, esq on Thursday, 27th February 2025, the NBA Uyo Branch applauded Dr. Luke for his swift response and dedication to upholding legal principles in the discharge of his duties.

The association emphasized that his proactive approach reflects a deep respect for judicial pronouncements and aligns with Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, which prioritizes good governance and adherence to due process.

The NBA Uyo commends the Honourable Commissioner for promptly enforcing the court’s ruling. His immediate action demonstrates a strong commitment to the rule of law, setting a remarkable precedent for others in public service.

Dr. Anthony Luke was officially sworn in as the Commissioner for Transport on Monday, 24th February 2025.

The release reads in full:

“The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Uyo Branch, is pleased to inform
its members and members of the public of a significant development
in its efforts to uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of citizens in Akwa Ibom State.

“Recently, the VIO resumed operations on roads in the state, despite a prior judgement restraining them from doing so. In response, the
Branch raised concerns and took immediate action. The leadership of
the Branch visited the Commissioner for Transport and informed him of
the judgement, requesting that the VIO be recalled from the roads.

“We are delighted to report that the Commissioner has promptly directed the VIO to vacate the roads, in compliance with the
judgement.

“The Branch is committed to advocating for justice and defending the rights of citizens.
We commend the Commissioner for Transport for his swift response
and commitment to upholding the rule of law.

“We also appreciate the efforts of members who brought this violation to the attention of
the Branch, enabling swift action.
We will continue to monitor the situation and act appropriately.”
