In a move aimed at fostering a more conducive environment for the discharge of duties by immigration officers and strengthening security across Itu Local Government Area, the newly posted Controller of Immigration Services in Akwa Ibom State, CIS A. G. Odika, Tuesday led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Council, Hon. Ubong Nkutt.
The visit, which took place at the Conference Hall, Council’s Secretariat in Mbak Atai, was an occasion for mutual cooperation, aimed at enhancing the overall security architecture of the area. CIS Odika emphasized the importance of fostering strong relationships with local government administrations, commending Hon. Ubong Nkutt’s leadership for cultivating an atmosphere of peace and hospitality.
CIS Odika expressed her deep appreciation for the local government’s proactive support to Immigration officers, particularly through the provision of residential accommodations within the council secretariat. She appealed for the continuation of this collaborative relationship, requesting additional support in the form of office space within the council’s premises, as well as the renovation of existing residential quarters.
Hon. Ubong Nkutt reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining Itu as a peaceful and hospitable LGA. He expressed his deep gratitude for the visit and the kind words from the Immigration Controller, noting that such gestures helped to strengthen interagency cooperation for the betterment of the community.
The Itu Council Boss assured CIS Odika and her team that his administration would continue to provide an enabling environment for all security agencies to operate effectively. He revealed that a 22-office administrative block was under construction and assured the Immigration Service that once completed, a thorough appraisal would be conducted to explore possible allocations for their office space needs.
Hon. Nkutt also reassured the Immigration Service that his administration would continue to work in synergy with all security agencies, underlining that the provision of vital intelligence and cooperation with the local government was crucial for enhancing the overall security architecture of the area.
The visiting delegation comprised senior officials from the Immigration Service, the Police Force, and the Federal Road Safety Corps, all of whom reiterated their shared goal of enhancing the safety and welfare of Itu’s residents through collaborative efforts with the local government.
In a heartfelt vote of thanks, the Deputy Controller of Immigration, Planning, Research, and Statistics, DCI O. O. Udoh, expressed gratitude to Hon. Nkutt for his hospitality and commitment to improving the working conditions of the Immigration Service.
