The administration of Hon. Aniefiok Nkom, Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, has pledged its support for legionnaires in the area. This commitment was made during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration held at the Ikot Ekpene Cenotaph.
Hon. Nkom, while addressing the gathering, emphasized the importance of appreciating the sacrifices made by fallen war veterans and commended the living for their selfless service. He assured the legionnaires that his administration would provide them with the necessary support to improve their welfare.
The Chairman also launched the Emblem appeal, calling on all to financially support the Nigerian Legion. He presented a cash gift to the legionnaires as a token of his administration’s commitment.
Mrs. Affiong Nkom, wife of the Chairman, also presented cash gifts to widows of fallen heroes as a contribution to the Nigerian Legion. This gesture was widely appreciated by the beneficiaries.
Squadron Leader Nseabasi Akpan, Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Ikot Ekpene Council, thanked Hon. Nkom and his wife for their support. He also thanked the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, and Deputy, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, for their support towards the veterans and widows in Akwa Ibom State.
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration was marked with a series of activities, including a 21-gun salute, laying of wreaths, and a parade by members of the Legion. The event was attended by dignitaries, including military personnel, politicians, and traditional leaders.
The pledge of support by Hon. Nkom’s administration is expected to improve the welfare of legionnaires in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area. It is also a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to appreciating the sacrifices made by fallen war veterans and their families.
