The Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Council, Hon. Ubong Nkutt, led a powerful Thanksgiving Service today, Sunday, at The Apostolic Church, Mbiatok Itam, to honor Nigeriaโs fallen heroes.
In a ceremony attended by key political and community leaders, tributes were paid to the legionnaires who sacrificed their lives for the peace and security of the nation.
The service featured an inspiring sermon by the Area Superintendent, Apostle Ime Okon, who preached on the theme “God has given you Rest,” based on 1 Kings 5:1. Apostle Okon assured the congregation that the sacrifices made by the legionnaires had secured peace for their homes and communities, declaring that there would be no more war in their midst.
In his address, Hon. Ubong Nkutt praised the fallen heroes for their dedication to the safety and unity of the country. He stressed the high cost of war and emphasized the importance of preserving peace. “War is a destructive force, and its aftermath is far more costly than the price of maintaining peace,” he said.
Hon. Nkutt also pledged the continued support of the local government for the legionnaires during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebrations and beyond.
The Chairman of the Legion in Itu Area, Major Archibong Eniang (Rtd), also spoke during the service, recalling the immense sacrifices made by the legionnaires and stressing the need for the community to support the surviving heroes and the widows of the fallen.
