Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced that his administration is actively engaging prominent airlines to ensure the swift utilization of the Abia Airport upon its completion, projected for 2026. The Governor also unveiled plans to dualize the Ururuka Road, connecting Umuahia to Aba, to facilitate a seamless 15-minute drive to the airport.
Dr. Otti made these disclosures during a condolence visit to the family of the late Abia elder statesman, Elder Emmanuel Adaelu, where he was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Priscilla Chidimma Otti. Despite the publicized 36-month completion timeline for the Nsulu Airport project, the Governor assured Abians of his commitment to delivering the project within 24 months.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Ctz. Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, Dr. Otti explained that the original site proposed for the airport under former Governor Chief T.A. Orji’s administration had become unsuitable due to urban expansion. He further revealed that unresolved compensation for landowners had stalled progress on the project, a challenge his administration is poised to resolve.
The Governor reiterated his administration’s policy of compensating landowners before commencing any project. He assured the Nsulu communities in Isiala Ngwa North LGA, where land was donated for the new airport site, that they would be adequately compensated.
Highlighting his vision for an inclusive and prosperous Abia, Governor Otti reaffirmed that all residents, irrespective of origin, who live, work, and pay taxes in the state are integral to its development. He expressed his aspiration to transform Abia into a vibrant hub for businesses and residents alike.
The condolence visit lasted over two hours and included discussions on governance and key state issues. During the visit, the Governor honored the late Elder Adaelu, describing him as a distinguished leader, and prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.
Prince Uzor Nwachukwu, the State’s Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, urged the Adaelu family to sustain their patriarch’s legacy of service. He lamented that Elder Adaelu did not live to witness the full realization of Governor Otti’s developmental vision, especially in Ngwaland.
Engr. Solomon Adaelu, the eldest son of the late elder statesman and a former House of Representatives member, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Governor Otti for his visit and his longstanding friendship with the family.
