The Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Elder Aniefiok Nkom, has condemned the destruction and theft of property at the Martha Udom Emmanuel Women Development Centre by vandals.
Speaking at the Ikot Ekpene Women’s Day Celebration, Nkom warned those responsible to desist from such acts, promising to replace stolen properties and provide new office furniture at the Centre.
Nkom emphasized that his administration would prioritize maximum security for the centre and other properties in the area, in line with his Restoration Blueprint. He urged the people of Ikot Ekpene to cooperate with his administration in its resolve to develop the area and promote unity and peace in the local government.
The Wife of the Chairman, Mrs. Affiong Nkom, appreciated God for preserving the lives of women in the local government and prayed for their continuous protection. She commended the women for celebrating themselves, especially during the festive period.
The President of Women of Ikot Ekpene 47 Villages, Lady (Dr.) Margaret Ibok, highlighted the Association’s activities, including training and encouraging women to generate ventures through skills acquisition programs and visits to orphanage homes. Ibok revealed that the Association has been in existence for years and faces challenges such as lack of office furniture and security.
The event featured musical and cultural displays, as well as recognition of excellence.
The Chairman’s pledge to provide maximum security for the Women’s Development Centre is a significant step towards promoting a safe and supportive environment for women to thrive.
