The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in collaboration with Toronto Police Service, has successfully recovered and returned $225,000 to a victim defrauded in a cryptocurrency investment scheme.

The victim lost over $355,000 in Canadian funds in 2021 after being targeted by a yahoo boy named Omonkhoa Precious Afure.

Following an investigation launched by Nigerian and Canadian law enforcement agencies in 2021, the EFCC seized assets linked to Afure’s fraud after a Lagos court ruled that the recovered funds belonged to the victim.

“As a result of the collaborative efforts between these units, in December of 2024, Toronto Police was able to return $225,000 back to the victim,” the Toronto Police Service said in a statement on Monday, December 9.
