In a continued effort to combat food insecurity, the Akwa Ibom State Government has extended its food aid program to vulnerable households in Uyo Local Government Area.
The initiative, part of Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE food security program, has been distributing essential food items such as rice, beans, and garri to beneficiaries across the state.
On Friday, December 6, 2024, the program reached Uyo, with beneficiaries selected from all 14 wards of the local government area receiving the food aid.
Beneficiaries, including Grace Asuquo Nathaniel from Nung Uyo Idoro, Sunday Archibong Udo from Nnung Obio Enang Idoro, Iquo James Edet from Itiam Etoi, Alice Aniedi Joseph from Itiam Etoi in Etoi Clan, and Gabriel Imoh Udofia from Ikot Udoro Oku in Oku Clan, expressed deep gratitude to the Governor. They praised his generosity and prayed for God’s continued guidance and protection over him.
The General Manager of the Akwa Ibom Bulk Purchase Agency (AKBPA), Hon. Unyime Etim, emphasized the Governor’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of the people. He noted that the free food distribution program is aimed at alleviating the economic hardships faced by vulnerable citizens.
Speaking with journalists at Ibom Hall, the distribution venue, the Chairman of Uyo Local Government, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, who led other council officials and stakeholders to monitor the process, commended Governor Eno for the initiative.
“Let me thank His Excellency for implementing this laudable program to address the pressing issue of hunger,” Dr. Udo stated.
The Uyo Council boss, who also serves as the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), described the ARISE food security program as a well-thought-out initiative that underscores the Governor’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of Akwa Ibom citizens.
