Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of vulnerable groups in the state.
This commitment was exemplified on Friday when the governor distributed 1,000 bags of food items to persons with disabilities across the 31 local government areas of the state.
While vulnerable households under the ARISE Food Security Program, numbering about 5,000 in Uyo Local Government Area received their food supplies at Ibom Hall Grounds, persons with disabilities, drawn from various groups across the state, gathered at the Women Development Centre along IBB Way, Uyo, the state capital, to collect their food items, courtesy of the governor.
Distributing the items, the General Manager of the Akwa Ibom Bulk Purchase Agency, Hon. Unyime Etim, who led the second truckload of food to the Women Development Centre, stated that the governor recognizes the challenges faced by persons with disabilities and is committed to providing the necessary support to improve their living conditions. He noted that the distribution, which will become a regular exercise, is part of the administration’s efforts to alleviate poverty and hunger among vulnerable groups in line with the ARISE Food Security Program.
He urged those who had not yet received their food items in the first batch to remain patient, assuring them that they would be included in the second batch.
Key government officials, including the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr. Ini Adiakpan, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Offiong Offor, Special Assistant to the Governor on Persons with Disability, Nene Bassey, and the Personal Aide, (PA)to the Governor on Persons with Disability, Comrade Ubong Imo Ikpe, were present to monitor the distribution process.
