The Kwara State Government has taken swift disciplinary action against a teacher, Mrs. Fatimoh Hamzat, following her assault on a youth corps member serving at Government Day Junior Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin.
In a joint statement issued by the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, and the Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, Mal.
Bello Abubakar, the government disclosed that an investigative panel found Mrs. Hamzat guilty of multiple infractions, including fighting on duty, using foul language, insubordination, and disrespecting the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) uniform, a symbol of national unity.
The statement emphasized that Mrs. Hamzat’s conduct violated public service rules. Consequently, she has been demoted by two grade levels and will be transferred to another school. Additionally, she is required to undergo mandatory counselling sessions to address her behavior.
In response to the incident, the NYSC has withdrawn all corps members posted to the school, citing concerns for their safety and dignity.
This decisive action underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining discipline and upholding respect for national symbols and values in its educational institutions.
