Ahead of the Akwa Ibom State local government elections, Mr. Ubong Wilson Nkutt, the leading contender and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Itu Local Government Area, has taken a significant step by setting up a 5-man Central Working Committee (CWC) to oversee the activities of the Ubong Abasi Campaign Organization.
The CWC which is made up of respected community leaders, seasoned political advisers, and experts across key sectors was inaugurated on Monday at the Ubong Abasi Campaign office in Itu Local Government Area with Mr. Emmanuel Okon Abel as Director General and is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the candidate’s campaign strategies and outreach efforts.
Mr. Ubong Nkutt who said the CWC’s mandate include setting up sub-committees to effectively implement organization’s agenda, advised that in an effort to create a more inclusive campaign, there is need for them to reach out beyond his traditional supporters and actively engage with various stakeholders, including those with differing visions for the Local Government’s future. This he said is strategically aimed at ensuring that their campaign accommodates a wide range of the community’s interest.
The PDP candidate noted that while the campaign would be driven by a clear vision for Itu Local Government Area, it is crucial that they listen to and incorporate the hopes and ideas of other citizens, adding that his team will actively engage with other groups, especially those who may have different perspectives on what Itu needs. He said the election is not just about one candidateβs platform; but a full spectrum of ideas that will help shape Itu Local Government’s collective future.
He said this inclusive approach is aimed at ensuring that the campaign addresses the concerns of all citizens, fostering a sense of unity and remain open to collaboration, even with those who may not have initially aligned with his aspiration and vision for the local government area.
In his acceptance speech, the Director General of the Central Working Committee; Mr. Emmanuel Okon Abel who said he is honoured to be called to serve, expressed deep gratitude for the trust placed in him and other members of the committee, assuring the candidate of their commitment to work tirelessly for the betterment of the Peoples Democratic Party and the entire community.
Abel emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration, urging all members of the party to put aside personal differences and work together for the common goal. He disclosed that soon the CWC will outlined the strategic plan for the campaign season as well as setting up the sub-committees.to drive the vision . He assured supporters that under his leadership, the CWC would leave no stone unturned in ensuring a resounding victory for the party’s candidate.
The Central Planning Committee also has the Vice Chairman of Itu Transition Committee; Hon. Emem Ekpanya as Secretary, while Mr. Akaneno Joshua, Mr. Emmanuel Ndon and Dr. Uwemedimo Okon are to serve as members.
Meanwhile, with the election approaching,Β Ubong Nkutt’s emphasis on inclusivity and wider collaboration could be a defining factor in the race for the Council Chairman’s seat, as voters in Itu Local Government Area have yearned for a unifying figure and leader capable of bridging divides and steering them towards a prosperous and united future.
