A group, the Akwa Ibom Good Governance Conscience Initiative, has described as baseless, false and paradoxical, a statement of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, signed by one Manfred Ekpe, over what it describes as an infantile outburst, calling for the resignation of Governor Umo Eno from office, because of issues surrounding the “pathetic living condition of a citizen who due to the downward national economy resorted to feeding her children with chicken and fish feeds”
The insignificant opposition party, having suffered serial defeat at the polls and the courts as well as losing any form of relevance in the state, considered the inconsequential press statement to gain visibility when it on Friday, asked Governor Umo Eno to resign from office following what it considered as “starving of the office of the First Lady and Commissioners’’.
Reacting to the outburst, the Coordinator of Akwa Ibom Good Governance Conscience Initiative, Mr. Victor Udoh, urged the Governor and members of the public to discountenance the rantings by the ADC Publicity Secretary, describing his outburst as misguided tantrums, which is unnecessary and unbecoming, done in bad faith.
According to Udoh, Ekpe’s unfortunate outburst without any attempt at reaching out to the vulnerable family came after the First Lady, Pastor Patience Umo Eno compassionately gifted Grace Udeme Esenowo the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira as initial support with the promise to follow up with other economic interventions.
The group reminded the ADC spokesman that the Wife of the Governor through her office and pet project, Golden Initiative For All, GIFA, has provided succor and several other humanitarian services to a wide spectrum of Akwa Ibom people, including the vulnerable, women, children, youths, elderly, in the area of free medicare, business support grant, shelter, stater packs, medical supports, free skills acquisition, among others, and that she is not relenting on her oars.
He went on reel out Governor Umo Eno’s achievements in the area of infrastructure, free homes compassionate , mass housing for the , low and and middle workers, health care, payment of backlog of gratuities and other entitlements due retired workers, massive investment in agriculture and free food for the vulnerable, Food security initiatives, countless bonuses to workers, massive road construction, education and health care projects in all 32 local governments areas and many others as some of the evidences of the judicious utilization of state resources by the Umo Eno led administration in giving Akwa Ibom good governance.
Mr. Udoh said Governor Eno has the interest of Akwa Ibom people at heart, and should be supported by all, irrespective of political affiliation to enable him accomplish the lofty programmes encapsulated in the ARISE Agenda blueprint of his administration.
