ESSIEN UDIM LAWMAKER, OTHERS RECOMMEND INCENTIVES TO TEACHERS IN RURAL COMMUNITIES

The member representing Essien Udim State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Prince Ukpong Akpabio II, Thursday participated in the second day of the State2State Quarterly Budget Performance Review between Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and priority Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs.

The event is holding at Four Points by Sheraton Hotels, Ikot Ekpene with participants from Ministries, Departments and Agencies, the media and civil society organizations.

In his submission, the Essien Udim lawmaker who is the Chairman, House Chairman on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges said the budget review was imperative to provide valuable information on whether the allocated resources are being utilized optimally and whether the desired outcomes are being achieved for effective and efficient service by various MDAs.

Speaker of the Assembly, Elder Udeme Otong had in a keynote address on “Legislative Oversight, the Journey So Far: 2024 Budget as a Case Study” said the engagement would help participants make recommendations for successful implementation of sectorial budgets of the priority sectors in the next quarter of the year.

The State2State team lead, Mr Borve Paago-Imabel said the quarterly engagement was aimed at reviewing the performance from January to June, 2024.

Participants made a case for incentives to teachers in the rural communities, employment of more teachers to avoid a situation which a greater number of teachers employed same year retire within the same period as well as provision of basic amenities and security in schools.
