The member representing Essien Udim State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Prince Ukpong Akpabio II has rounded off activities marking his one year in office with 45 indigenes of Ukana West Ward Two smiling home yesterday with N100,000 each to boost their businesses.
This brings to 292, the total number of beneficiaries of Prince Ukpong Akpabio Business Support Grant from all the 13 wards in Essien Udim, amounting to N29.2m in the last 12 months of Prince Akpabio’s representation, in addition to a special anniversary business support grant of N200, 000 and N150,000 to 13 indigenes among them, five women, five youths and three persons with disabilities to expand their businesses.
The finale of the Monthly Ward Briefing and Empowerment took place on Sunday at Ukana Ikot Nwo, the residence of Ukana West Ward Two Political Leader, Mr. Aniekan Okon Akpan and featured the dedication of Essien Udim State Constituency Office.
The event attracted past and present political office holders in Essien Udim including the Vice Chairman of the Local Government Transition Committee, Hon. Imo Etim and members of the Committee as well as former House of Assembly member, Rt. Hon. Nse Ntuen, the Chairman, Director General and members of AkeminiAwasi Campaign Council of Prince Ukpong Akpabio.
Presenting the cash to the beneficiaries, Prince Akpabio, who is the Deputy Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Economic Planning and Development, said the empowerment was his little way of thanking his constituents for the confidence reposed in him and to appreciate them for their support to the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno.
He used the occasion to present his scorecard and that of Governor Umo Eno in the area of education, healthcare, water projects, human capacity development and improved welfare system as well as housing and sports development.
The lawmaker promised that his second year will witness more dividends of development and investments in his constituents to improve their living standards in line with his campaign promise to build a better Essien Udim.
The beneficiaries and stakeholders including former House of Assembly member, Rt. Hon. Nse Ntuen, Ukana West Ward Two Political Leader, Mr. Aniekan Okon Akpan were full of praises to Prince Ukpong Akpabio for changing the narrative in politics and legislative engagements.
Earlier in the day, the lawmaker had led his constituents for a special thanksgiving service at Mount Zion Lighthouse Full Gospel Church, Ikot Ide where he expressed gratitude to God for his grace in the last 12 months in the House of Assembly.
He recalled how the church prayed for him and his victory in the 2023 elections, stressing that he returned to the church to appreciate them and donate to the development of the church building projects with wife of the lawmaker, Mrs. Ndifreke Ukpong Akpabio supporting with the donation of cash and wrappers to the women of the church.
