‼️Gov Umo Eno’s Food Security Programme Resonates at M. I. Okpara Leadership Lecture‼️
🎈The agricultural development and food security programme of the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Umo Eno, yesterday resonated at the Dr M. I. Okpara Annual Lecture Series held at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre, Abuja.
🎈Media Consultant to the Governor, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, while fielding questions from Journalists at the event said Governor Eno’s administration, like that of Okpara in the days of the old Eastern Region is vigorously pursuing a well intentioned agricultural program designed to ensure food availability and affordability in the State.
🎈Umanah said agriculture is top on the list of the ARISE Agenda blueprint of the Governor which he is pursuing relentlessly to ensure availability of food for the people.
🎈Hon Umanath noted that, Governor Eno, on assumption of office swung into the revitalization of the Akwa Palm Estate in Esit-Eket, commenced the development of Agricultural and farm settlements with the Songhai Model Farm (under a PPP initiative) at Nsit-Ubium LGA, and the development of farm settlements in the 31 Local Government Areas of the State working with the local authorities.
🎈“Our Governor is giving agriculture the attention it deserves. Apart from developing farm settlements, he went on to declare first and third Fridays of the month as work free farming Days, distributing of free staple food to thousands of vulnerable Households under the Bulk Purchase Agency, provision and distribution of improved Cassava Cuttings, Cocoa, palm seedlings and agricultural Inputs to farmers in order to boost food production, ” he said.
🎈In the area of investment, Hon. Umanah applauded the Governor’s forward thinking and visionary approach in attracting investments that would sustain the state beyond oil. He said, like Okpara’s administration which developed key investment for the Eastern region, such as the Presidential Hotels in Port-Harcourt, Enugu, Golden Guinea and Premier Breweries, several cement factory including, Nkalagu in Ebonyi and the Rubber and Palm Estates in Ikom, Cross River, the Umo Eno led administration is today proposing the development of Prime real estate and hospitality facilities in Lagos and Abuja amongst other interventions to grow income sources and ensure high return on investment as oil revenues are fast depleting.
