  • As Mmeti Umanah Emerges New Secretary of Council

Following the successful conduct of the October 5th polls in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, the new Chairman of Council, Gideon Uwa today held a solemn assembly under the aegis of โ€˜Etim Ekpo Praysโ€™ to thank God for the elections and pray for a smooth take-off of the new administration at the council secretariat, Utu Etim Ekpo.

The solemn assembly which brought together political, religious, community leaders, leaders of thought and all concerned individuals to thank God for peace, unity and wisdom during the campaigns and electioneering process will henceforth be held monthly to consecrate Etim Ekpo to God.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, Gideon Uwa flanked by his wife and the Vice Chairman, Hon. Choice Friday Akpan reiterated that his administration will be people-centric and thanked God who made it possible for a peaceful and credible elections to be held in Etim Ekpo.

According him, โ€œIf we sit down and examine the entire process of the elections, you will come to terms that everything was orchestrated by God, that is why the leadership of Etim Ekpo saw reasons for us to gather here today to return all glory to Him. Even when some people were boastful of unleashing violence, their plans didnโ€™t see the light of the dayโ€.

โ€œI specially thank our leader, Emmanuel Enoidem SAN who has demonstrated every attribute of leadership to lead the people of Etim Ekpo the right direction. I want to place it on record today that I wish to known and addressed as Gideon Uwa, not Honourable Gideon Uwa. I want service delivery, landscaping of the council secretariat, empowerment of our youths and women and the many things we will do to speak for meโ€, he added.

Leading the thanksgiving session on behalf of the Leaders of Etim Ekpo, the political leader, Emmanuel Enoidem SAN, said he expressed gratitude to God almighty who deserves all the glory. โ€œI stand here to redeem the vow we made before the campaigns that we will return as a people to thank God who stood by us all the wayโ€.

The International President of Maintain Peace Movement who knelt to pray for the well-being and progress of the area called on the people to unite for the restoration of Etim Ekpo which he described as a hub for commerce and industry during the colonial period, and emphasized that cultism and all forms of vices must be eradicated.

Earlier, the Chairman Religious Affairs SubCommittee of the Campaign Organisation, Bishop (Dr). Samuel Akpan speaking under the Theme: Faithful God – Deut. 7:9(NET) said the people were thankful to God for a peaceful and victorious Chairmanship and Councilorship Election.

The Council helmsman later administered the oath of office to the new Council Secretary, Mr. Mmeti Umanah, urging him to uphold the sanctity of his office at all times. In his acceptance speech, Mr. Umanah who pledged his loyalty added that he will discharge the responsibilities required from his office creditably.

Udeme Eduo, Senior Clergies; Arcbishop (Prof) Ahaziah Umanah, Bishop (Prof) Enomfon Akpan, Arcbishop Udeme Simon, Arcbishop (Prof) Abasiodiong Thomas & Ors, Councillors, youth stakeholders and women leaders amongst others.
