🎈Governor Umo Eno’s free food program reached Ikot Ekpene today as part of the Akwa Ibom State Government’s ongoing efforts to combat hunger and enhance food security.
🎈The initiative, designed to alleviate the effects of economic hardship on vulnerable populations, is managed by the Akwa Ibom Bulk Purchase Agency and is now in its second phase of food distribution.
🎈In Ikot Ekpene, the distribution took place at the Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium, where vulnerable households from the 11 wards in the local government area received essential food items such as rice, beans, and garri. Beneficiaries presented their food vouchers for authentication and verification by the team from the Bulk Purchase Agency before collecting their items.
🎈Addressing the beneficiaries, the General Manager of the Akwa Ibom Bulk Purchase Agency, Hon. Unyime Etim, stated that the program is a direct initiative of Governor Umo Eno, aimed at providing critical food support to those most in need.
🎈Speaking during the event, Senator Emmanuel Ibok Essien, former Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate and Political Leader of Ikot Ekpene, along with the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Aniefiok Nkom, commended the Governor for his humanitarian gesture. They emphasized the significance of the initiative in supporting vulnerable residents in the local government and across the state, highlighting its contribution to a healthy population and improved food security.
🎈Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to Governor Eno for his generosity, praising the Bulk Purchase Agency team for their transparency and diligence in ensuring the food items reached the intended recipients.
🎈The distribution process was overseen by the agency’s team, led by General Manager Hon. Unyime Etim, in collaboration with local government officials, including Hon. Aniefiok Nkom (Chairman of Ikot Ekpene LGA), Senator Emmanuel Ibok Essien (Political Leader of the area), Sir John Cleton Etim (immediate past Transition Committee Chairman of the LGA), and Hon. Aniekan Umanah (Media Consultant to the Governor).
🎈Meanwhile, the food truck is scheduled to arrive in Esit Eket on Saturday.
