Etim Ekpo Political Leader, Emmanuel Enoidem, SAN has asserted that 2025 would be a better, brighter and prosperous year for Etim Ekpo people. He made the assertion during New Year get together at the Council Secretariat held on Saturday, where he used the occasion to admonish youths of the area to shun youthful exuberances and rather concentrate on meaningful pursuits that will distinguish and make them become assets to themselves, family and the society.
The International President, Maintain Peace Movement (MPM) noted with dismay the alarming rate of youth involvement in anti-social vices, urging them to desist from such acts, as well as indulging themselves in vocations that are demeaning to the society and inimical to individual growth and societal development.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria implored the youths to become worthy ambassadors of the area, exhibiting values that will attract sustainable peace and development to Etim Ekpo “As the Bible emphasizes that only the humble earns grace from God, it is my desire that Etim Ekpo youths become more humble this year than ever. It is also worth acknowledging that in recent times, there have been significant changes in Etim Ekpo, as expressed in the peace that was enjoyed in 2024, but I want the youths to improve on that record and make Etim Ekpo a save haven for residents”.
“Etim Ekpo youths must reject crime in all it’s form, manifestations and appearances this year. There is great dignity in labour than in begging, stealing and smoking. I want the Youths to get involved in meaningful ventures this year, therefore, may this year be the best year for Etim Ekpo youths” Enoidem, SAN prayed
Earlier at the palace of the Paramount Ruler, HRH Okuku (Prof.) Amanam Udo, before proceeding to the Council Secretariat for the actual get together, Etim Ekpo Political Leader, Emmanuel Enoidem, SAN charged Village Heads to be more transparent, proactive and vigilant in the discharge of their duties as the Chief Security Officers of their different villages, saying that, “when there is relative peace and harmony in the community, it will definitely rub off on the entire Local Government Area”
“Therefore, you have to be more intentional about knowing who lives in your domain to avoid harboring criminals, people don’t come from far to pepertuate evil in the community, vandalize government properties and destroy community infrastructure, it is young people within the community that does or aid the evil. Village Heads must therefore become more alert towards eliminating such elements and hoodlums in their communities”, Enoidem, SAN added
Commending the Chairman, Gideon Uwa for his hard work and transformational initiatives, the Political Leader acknowledged that, the Chairman is a youth worth emulating by the youth folks for his humility, commitment to excellence and visionary leadership of the Council.
In their separate remarks, the Member Representing Etim Ekpo/Ika State Constituency, Elder Mfon Idung and Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Prof Imoh Moffat admonished the youths to be law abiding, become focused on the things that will bring them honour and eschew inhumane traits, as such would always lead to the path of self destruction.
They promised to continue empowering the Youths to become self reliant and productively engaged, pioneering things that will put Etim Ekpo on the world map.
Reiterating his commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises, the Executive Chairman, Gideon Uwa, explained that the ongoing beautification of the Council Secretariat is part of efforts to give the Council a facelift. He added that human empowerment programs that will transform the economy of the area will soon take the center stage in line with the Arise Agenda. He further used the occasion to unveil Mr. Goodnews Obadiah as the new NYCN Chairman, Etim Ekpo Chapter.
